I was wondering if there is a definition somewhere of providing “more than half the support” of a child. If my husband and I have a joint checking account, but file separately for the IBR benefits, how would we know who paid what portion of our child’s expenses? I understand it doesn’t depend on who claims the child on the tax return, but I don’t understand what it does depend on. Thank you so much for your help!

Adriana,  I’m not aware of any more guidance for borrowers to use in making the determination.  Family size is certified by borrowers and the language on the form is just as you’ve indicated.
