Hi Heather,
I was wondering if you ever received an answer regarding whether the John R Justice grants were taxable.
Thanks!
Hello. Heather and I searched the Bureau of Justice Assistance page for updates on the John R. Justice Grants and only found this under their Frequently Asked Questions link:
23. Are there tax consequences associated with receipt of JRJ benefits?
The Bureau of Justice Assistance has requested an opinion from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) specifically pertaining to the tax-ability of JRJ benefits and is anticipating a response. In the interim, state agencies and individual beneficiaries are free to consult with the IRS or a tax advisor. Upon receipt of an IRS opinion, this FAQ will be updated.
Here is a link to the program: https://www.bja.gov/ProgramDetails.aspx?Program_ID=65.
Thus, according to their site, we are presently awaiting an opinion from the IRS as to the tax-ability of the program and no updates have yet been posted.
Here is a link to pose the question to BJA directly: https://www.bja.gov/contactus.aspx.
Please let us know what you find out…
