What about PLUS loans for children’s education if I go back to school?

I have PLUS loans from sending my kids through school.  The loans were deferred while they were in school.  It appears loan repayments begin after being out of school for six months.

What happens to those loans if I go to school for at least half-time?  May those loans for my children’s education be deferred because I am in school?

Parent PLUS borrowers who are also students can defer repayment while enrolled in school at least half time and (for Direct PLUS Loans first disbursed on or after July 1, 2008) for an additional 6 months after they graduate or drop below half-time enrollment.

That includes being able to defer loans in my name that were used to send my kids to school?

Yes, a Parent PLUS loan is eligible for in-school deferment based on the enrollment of the dependent child-student and also based on the enrollment of the borrowing parent-student.  This is the form a parent borrower would need to get a deferment based on their own enrollment in school: http://www.mappingyourfuture.org/downloads/sch.pdf

If I use Stafford loans to go back to school does that change what I could be garnished if I am ever put into default?
