My wife has been a teacher at Title I schools for the past 5 years, and we believe she meets the requirements to be forgiven for $5000 of student loans. However, she submitted an application to her servicer (Mohela) and it was denied for not having the dates she worked at each school in the format MM-DD-YYYY (she had put just MM-YYYY). So she got all of the principals’ signatures again, and resubmitted. She was denied again because the schools names did not match what was in DoE database. I checked the DoE database and saw that the schools have a slightly different name for each year. The servicer says she must resubmit the forms, one for each year with the school name matching the DoE database. Does she really have to do that? Is the servicer just trying to drag this out? Is there someone we can appeal to?
Sorry to hear you are facing this situation. I suggest that you bring the student loan ombudsman’s office into this problem. https://studentaid.ed.gov/repay-loans/disputes/prepare/contact-ombudsman
