My student loans are through Sallie Mae.

I am obviously on the income based repayment plan.  I applied with my annual documentation within the 10 days of my anniversary date. Two days later I received and email from Fred a CSR stating my application has been processed and my new payment is $0. A few days later I logged into my account and it said my monthly payment due 10/21 was $1493, the standard payment. I printed the email just incase. I called Sallie Mae and spoke to a CSR who stated my application is still being processed and can take up to 30 days in which I would have to make the standard payment. Which I obviously cannot afford if I’m on IBR. the email I received says it takes 5 days to process. What else can I do?  I am getting really worried that they are trying to screw me over.

You may want to try sending Sallie Mae an electronic correspondence (through their site) as well as asking to speak to a supervisor when calling Customer Service. I had an IBR-related issue with my student loans at Sallie Mae and the electronic correspondence ended up (surprisingly) working better than the phone call. An IBR account, as I understand it, should not revert back to standard payments unless they determine that you no longer qualify for IBR.

I have done the online correspondence, which is how I got the email replying stating my application was processed and my new payment was $0.  In my inbox on my Sallie Mae account, the email they sent me with a copy of my IBR application filled out is now deleted.  Shady?  I also received an online correspondence today stating a request to review my application was submitted and it will take 24-48 hours to process.  Why do I keep getting different stories?  I am saving and printing every correspondence.

Is there anyway I can attach the emails here, for all to see??

you can take a one month forbearance so that you don’t have to make the standard payment and you will get back on your IBR by the next payment.  call sallie mae and ask for a 1 month forebearance.

You may also want to contact the Dept. of Education ombudsman and report the issue, or ask a Sallie Mae supervisor if they have a similar ombudsman/issue response person within their organization. Another loan servicer that I had a similar issue with (MOHELA) had people designated to investigate and respond to these issues. But it took multiple calls to supervisors and emails to finally get it on their radar.
