Hi Heather,

I work for a for-profit subsidiary LLC of a 501(c)(3). The for-profit subsidiary is fully owned by the 501(3)(c), and we participate in the same 403(b) retirement account.

I turned in the employment certification form and it was approved. My HR rep had marked 501(c)(3), but included the EIN and name of the for-profit subsidiary.

How can I ensure that my servicer has certified my eligibility appropriately? If I will not be eligible for PSLF in the long run, I’d rather know soon & make different arrangements.

Well, typically you’d get a response from FedLoan Servicing.  Did you?  Also note that the Employment Certification process is not binding on the Dept of Ed.  They have been really clear that forgiveness is only earned when the application for forgiveness is granted.  Up until then, they say they can change their minds.  I think you are right to be concerned, because no for-profit employment qualifies.  Is there a reason you can’t work for the c3?

I did receive a letter from FedLoan certifying my eligibility, and the letter tracked of my qualifying payments since the beginning of my employment.

I talked to my HR coworker today - she signs these all the time for employees of the for-profit LLC. So far, she hasn’t heard that anyone has been denied, and FedLoan approved her employment certification as well.

In the meantime, I might focus on switching jobs to one under the c3.
