I have made 50 qualifying payments under PSLF and have a set of loans that will begin repayment 12/21. According to one of the direct loan representatives when I recertify in 2016 after I file my taxes I should ask them to realign my loans so they are due at the same time. This would consolidate them. She said I would receive credit for the 50 payments I have already made. I just don’t want to consolidate and lose the 50 payments I have already made.
Whatever you do, do NOT consolidate! Direct loans is no more, so I’m not sure who was guiding you. You CAN arrange your due dates to align when you annually recertify for ibr, but that is completely different than consolidation.
Sorry I meant Fed loan servicing. The rep said I wouldn’t lose those previous payments but it sounded too good to be true.
