I currently have 3 federal student loans on voluntary forebearance. I have the unfortunate circumstance of having a good income but living in San Francisco means an outrageous cost of living. Towards the end of the year I will be quitting my job to travel around the world for 12 months, volunteering when possible but I won’t have any income. What will be the best option to apply for to postpone payments since I will not have income or looking for employment during that time? Another concern is that I will have a record of income all year so if they ask for statements or pay checks will they assume I am lying about leaving? Thanks!

Interest is generally charged on your student loan if you go overseas for 6 months or more, so it’s important to keep on top of your loan.
