Hello Heather,
Are previous ICR payments considered “qualified payments” under REPAYE’s 25 year forgiveness period?
I am considering switching to REPAYE. I was on ICR and am now on IBR and those ICR payments count towards IBR’s 25 year forgiveness period, but I can’t find if they count toward REPAYE.
Thank you for your help!
I’d like to know the same thing. I’ve bounced back and forth over the years between whatever repayment plan keeps my payments the lowest and just recently switched to the REPAYE plan (applied in February and was just approved this week). I have been paying my loans on and off since 2000, with some payments prior to that between undergraduate and law school, but then I consolidated around 2000. I have taken deferments and forbearance periods so basically have paid for approximately 10 years since consolidation. I am hoping that those 10 years will still count! Is there anywhere that will tell me how many years left to pay under my current program? And do those 10 years count toward the 25? (I get stuck in the 25 because of law school, and although 90% of my work is for low income people it doesn’t fall under the public service loan forgiveness program which stinks.)
Thanks!
-Michele
I believe the answer is found in question 28

Not sure how loan servicing companies keep track of it. Fedloan Servicing gives you a nice counter for PSLF payments, but nothing for the 25 year payments.
