I have struggled with finding paid work every now and then since completing graduate school. I will do internships or fellowships sometimes that do not pay but is aligned with my career choice and would help me in the long run. I have some money saved up and would make small monthly payments but they only go towards the interest and not the actual loan amount.

Should I be making payments that only go towards the interest while I am unemployed and looking for work? If I don’t my interest will continue to build up but I hate the idea that I am only paying back interest and not my loan.

Any suggestions?
