I have worked for a 501c3 for two years and have been working for the U.S. Government for about eight months now. I have a bachelors degree and my supervisors are strongly encouraging me to go back to graduate school. I am afraid that if I go half time that that time will not count towards my public service repayment. Do you have any adviace? I would like to pay something so that I can get credit. My loans were consolidated under the direct loans program.
Borrowers in school more than half time are automatically put into an in-school deferment status on their loans. Although folks ought to be able to opt out of that and choose to repayment “in repayment” so that they can make payments that count towards forgiveness (assuming they meet all the other requirements), I’m not entirely sure how a borrower will get that accomplished, since the process is automated. There is work to do to straighten this out and people in this situation need to pursue it with lots of in writing requests and follow through with the student loan ombudsman’s office as necessary. Start by working with a representative of the financial aid office and by communicating with your servicers. Please be back in touch to let us know how it goes.
I received an online statement a few months back, but have not received one since. It says that I have an amount due, but when I go into the loan details it says pay this amount 0.00. It concerns me that they are wanting money when they have not issued me a statement. What should I do?
I have been checking on it and it said before that I should pay 0.00 when I recieved a statement. This is very frustrating. I wish that they kept it on the old site.
