Hi, I am one year out of school and have consolidated all of my loans (21 of them) into Direct Loan. My goal is to participate in the PSLF program. I have applied for a teaching position at our local high school and will be hearing back by the end of the week. If I get offered the job and presented with a sallary I feel like this is the best time to apply for IBR. I am currently enrolled in the extended-graduated plan. Once I have transitioned to IBR, what other paperwork do I need to complete? It seems, from the research that I have done, that I simply (at that point) begin collecting tax documentation proving sallary and full-time status employment. What actually enrolls me in the PSLF program? Is there any way to get “locked-in”? Thanks for everything your doing to help.
There isn’t any need to opt in nor any process to do so. You need to make the right kind of payments, on the right kind of loans, while you are in the right kind of job, for 120 months, and prove it. An employment certification form is in the works, but won’t be usable until around the 1st of 2012.
