So last fall I sent in my employment verification under CLAARP, and when I call the program’s number and ask after when the payment will actually be made, I am told “in the next couple of weeks.” The problem is I’ve been told that since October. Add to that the ever-changing servicer (I have a direct loan consolidated that got bumped from the direct loan servicing site to myedaccount in October and then this month has been moved again to edfinancial) - I am concerned that this money is never going to materialize.
Do you have any info about this program or any contacts you could suggest I reach out to find a more detailed answer as to what is going on?
This is so ridiculous! Have you contacted the ombudsman? If not, do that for sure: http://www.ombudsman.ed.gov/
I’ve been in touch with my contacts at ED about this several times and gotten nowhere. I’ll send another email today.
I’d say it’s not too soon to contact your congressional representatives offices too. Please keep me posted.
Thank you for the referral to the ombudsman. I have sent in a request to them, and will let you know if I get any helpful response. I am sure you have a lot of readers in the same boat as me.
I have good news….I think!! I just confirmed with the Dept. of Education that payments would be sent out this month to everyone who is in line to get a payment under this program. The best part is what prompted me to call them - a co-worker logged into his student loan account and noticed a $6,000.00 payment had been made on 4/19, but when I logged into my account I was not as lucky and saw no such payment. Since I was beginning to freak out thinking I somehow did something wrong after waiting all this time for the money, I decided to call and find out what was going on. This is when I was told that everyone who is in line for a payment under this program should be receiving a letter in the mail within the month from the DOE, as well as a payment made directly to your loan servicer. I was told all payments would not go out at once, but should be made within the month. This is great news. Now I’m just waiting on that payment to show up in my account.
