hi heather
i have a question. I am currently working at a non for profit and am also enrolled in the National health Service Corps, which has contracted with me to pay back parts of my federal student loans in exchange for 2 years of service with an approved non for profit that serves an underserved community. If i am already getting moneys from the NHSC, am i still eligible for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program. If the money i received from NHSC prepaid my loans for many years, does that money count towards my “on-time” payments through the public service loan forgivenss program?
any clarification into the rules would be greatly appreciated. thanks!
My understanding is that lump sum payments usually will only count as one payment except under certain circumstances like when the payment is Americorps or Peace Corps related. Lately I’ve heard from some borrowers that they have heard different answers from some loan servicers. It seems to me that many loan repayment assistance programs ought to be redesigned in order to compliment PSLF more effectively.
