Hi Heather. I am graduating law school in May. I was planning to start paying back my loans in June, as I work for a nonprofit right now and want those payments to be applied toward loan forgiveness. I just found out that the so called “grace period” is mandatory and as a result, I can’t make payments that count towards loan forgiveness. This is unacceptable.. If I don’t want a grace period, I shouldn’t have to have one. Is there a way I can fight this and start paying back my loans in June?
Thank you for your help.
Hey, Sugar. You can consolidate and thus end your grace period and enter repayment.
We have a similar issue with “automatic” in-school deferment that affects some folks.
