Diablo 2 Resurrected’s new v2.4 patch is expected to shake the meta in several new runewords, character rebalances, and adjustments to gear. A new D2R runeword is revealed…and it’s kind of odd.A newly revealed D2R runeword has leaked. This time it’s a completely revamped version of Plague the runeword of old that was originally slated to be released with Diablo 2 Lord of Destruction v1.15 but was later retracted.

In some way, Blizzard has changed up Plague’s stats slightly. Plague’s tier has changed to Cham + Shael + Um, with a substantial cost, but also a fresh use for the seldom used Cham rune. The new version of Plague looks like an odd experimental build that has the specific purpose of. Everyone is trying their best to determine the reason to use Plague over something like Hoto, or as an even potent melee weapon like the Breath or Grief of the Dying.

The main change is that Plague now makes use of socketed 3 swords instead of general weapons. Another change is the addition of -1 to All Skills, and the removal of +strength since Fal cannot be used anymore. In addition, enhanced damage was added as a major bonus to raw damage. The other stats are basically identical.

Plague was not so obvious at the start, but it was not without its use, possibly for casters; YouTuber Drunski125 notes that Plague’s limitation to swords only is a mistake. “If you could have it in scepters, imagine that you could get a 3-point Fist of the Heaven scepter you roll Plague in.

Jewels are very similar to Gems, with the difference that they do not have fixed properties. Each gem is endowed with random magical properties (like any magical item).
