Message: Dear Heather:
I had a Ford/Stafford Student Loan issued to me while I was in a Homeless Shelter. I was forced into one because my family farm was foreclosed upon. Nowhere to go. I was to I had to leave and signed up for the courses at University of Illinois Graduate School Online. In the “Shelters By-Laws” laptops were NOT allowed, consfiscated and held until you left.
I informed University of Illinois of the situation and heard nothing. I was locked out of my accounts for awhile. Then I received a Ford/Stafford Loan of about $2,800 which with buying books didn’t go far at all. I visited University of Illinois at Springfield 3 times to explain to the authorities why I was way behind Fall of 2010. I received the loan after mid-terms.
I received no formal response from the university such as an incomplete contract. They didn’t want to be caught loaning money to someone in a “Mission”. I was a prosperous Career person, University of Illinois Graduate but with a foreclosed home/farm that I really didn’t have my hands into untill I returned from Boston.
My transcripts are put on hold and so is my education. I can send you the “documentation” that I have that I turned over to the University of Illinois. They wanted it and had done incomplete contracts on other students. I have been polite, but they never answered my emails or calls. They always were explaining the “University’s Position”.
Sincerely,
Walter Earl Roper

(I could use some help because no one seems to know much about this area except what I have read from your postings on LinkedIn which I belong to More info/documentation avail if needed.)
Dear Mr. Roper,
It sounds to me like you need the legal services of an attorney. My focus is providing educational materials to assist borrowers in making informed decisions. I cannot represent you.
Most states have organizations that provide free or discounted legal services to people in need. Illinois has dedicated civil legal services attorneys. For free legal aid referrals and information in Illinois, click here: http://www.illinoislegalaid.org.
Please let me know how it goes. Best wishes to you.
