Not exactly sure if previous service work counts towards loan forgiveness

I have about $25k in federal student loans which I consolidated (mostly Stafford, small % is Perkins). I graduated from college in 2002 and worked for a 501 (c)(3) from March 2004 to May 2010. I just recently found out about the public service forgiveness and am wondering if it is too late to count any of this employment time towards the 10 year requirement?

After graduation, I also worked for my University’s Biology Extension department and I am not sure to find out if this might also qualify, as it was very community service oriented.

Public Service Loan Forgiveness is earned by making “the right kind of payments” on “the right kind of loans” while you are in the “right kind of job”.  The first possible date anybody could make a payment that counts towards forgiveness is October 1, 2007.  Start by reading through the Essential Tools for Student Loan Borrowers here: http://askheatherjarvis.com/tools
