I’ve seen that the ICR-A is only available for direct loans
“ICR-A is available only for loans in the Direct Loan program, since income-contingent repayment is available only for loans in the Direct Loan program.” http://www.finaid.org/loans/ibr.phtml
I have a 2 loans from Fall 2008 that is called a stafford loan. I have both the subsidized and unsubsidized stafford loans. However, there is no mention of whether this is under the Direct Loan program or the federally guaranteed student loan program. How can I tell what loan program this is under, and what does this mean for me? Does it mean I can’t have any of my loans forgiven through the ICR-A or does it just mean I can’t have those specific loans forgiven through this program? What if I end up paying off this loan before applying for ICR-A? Will that disqualify me?
Thanks Heather!
