I took out a total of $5000 in student loans in the late 80’s that I defaulted on when I became a single mom. My circumstances slowly improved and after YEARS of seized tax refunds and of course inability to obtain college transcripts I was able to negotiate a lump sum settlement in 1999 for a little over $4000.
I was cleared and was able to obtain my transcripts. I receive my tax refunds every year. A couple of years ago I noticed on my credit report there were “inqueries” from Tex Guaranteed. Recently I have begun to receive what I can only describe as vaguely worded letters from them basically saying I still owed money but there is no amount specified just requests to contact them. there are no recent amounts past due on my report only inqueries.
What is going on? Do they have a right to pursue me for more money? I absolutely have paid well over $10,000 on the loan so it’s not like they didn’t get the principal! This was so many years ago I don’t have the details or documents
