I work for the state and make 45k per year, with 52k in student loan debt. I could consolidate my loans (with another loan company) over to direct and qualify for the 10-year forgiveness (PSFP), however my spouse (also in public service with 15k in student loan debt) makes 55k per year, which puts us married filing jointly over the IBR qualifications. When is it worth consolidating and filing taxes separately?
