Entering medical school with substantial undergraduate debt.

Hi,

So I graduated from college this past spring and was recently accepted to medical school. Now that the anxiety of medical school acceptance is off my shoulders, I am facing the even greater anxiety of financial instability.

Basically, I have accrued just shy of $100,000 in debt from my private undergraduate institution (the majority of which is a private loan), and am now facing generating probably $200,000 more by attending medical school.

I would just like to know to what degree should I be panicking and if there is anything I can do now while I am in my gap year before medical school to improve my situation. I am currently working full time making a relatively low salary (which covers my current substantial loan payments but not all that much more) and am trying to obtain a part time job as well.

If you have advice on things to do during medical school as well, that would be appreciated.

Really any advice at all would be incredible, because I do not have many resources and am quite worried. All I do know regarding financial planning is that I am not open to signing up for the military scholarship program for financing medical school - it is a fantastic program, but it is just not for me.

Thank you!
