My same-sex spouse has student loans and a lower income than me while I have no student loans.  In the past we have been treated as single for the purposes of IBR and only her income has counted and we used a family size of 1.  Our yearly income certification is in January, and for this year’s certification we used her 2012 tax return and noted that tax filing status was single but that our family size is now three (her, me, and our baby born in 2013).  Our payment went way down and I just want to make sure it was ok to use the single status in referring to our 2012 taxes but update the family size to what the government is currently counting.
