Hi Heather,
Here’s an interesting one. My wife has been on IBR for a few years (and will also be taking advantage of PSLF). We were married on Jan 1, 2014, and therefore her 2013 tax return was filed as Single.
Her IBR reporting window is coming up in June, and of course she’ll be submitting her 2013 tax return to show AGI as per usual. On that return she is Single. However, for the purposes of the June 2014 IBR reporting submission, can she claim her Family Size as 2, now that she is actually married? In last year’s IBR report, she had a Family Size as 1.
So, can she claim Family Size as 2 in CY 2014, while also submitting a 2013 tax return AGI showing her as single?
A year from now, obviously we’ll be filing as Married Filing Separately with a family size of 2, but there’s this weird in between state this year, and if we can benefit from claiming Family Size of 2, that would be great.
Thank you!
