Hi Heather! Thank you SOOO much for this site!!! What a godsend. Anyway, so I have a master’s degree in….gulp…music and I went to very best schools ($$$). My parents helped with exactly zero dollars so I borrowed up the wazoo. (at least I still play professionally I guess) So four years ago I decided to go back to school to be a physician assistant. I was/am tired of being poor! I borrowed money the entire time mostly just to survive. I’ve had to work as a certified nursing assistant for the past 2 years to get the required patient contact hours and CNAs barely make above minimum wage. Now I’m finished with my prereqs and waitlisted to one school about to apply for a 2nd time, while also applying to nursing schools just in case. I am just about at the limit for student loans, I have $7000 or so left til I hit that lovely $138,000 number. Now, of course, I owe WAY more than that with interest. I am counting on IBR and forgiveness by working in a rural area when I’m finished. I am soooo scared, I’ve been a nervous wreck for a week, what if I’ve made it this far only to be stopped right when I’m getting there because I can’t pay? PA and nursing schools will both be considered undergraduate programs even though a lot of them come with a master’s degree when you’re finished. Why is this? Anyway, is there any hope for me? I MIGHT could get a parent to co-sign a private loan but I don’t really know. What are my options? Do I have any?
