25 year income-driven repayment plan while under a PSLF program

Hi,
I’ve been working with a local Govt. agency since 2008 and have already paid 2.5 years into my student loans without taking advantage of the PSLF (I simply wasn’t aware that this was an option until just recently). Now that I’m looking to take advantage of the PSLF and want to know if it is possible to obtain a 20 to 25 year qualifying repayment plan that would support the PSLF program?  If so, what type of loan?  Will the 2.5 years I have already worked with the local Govt. be deducted from the 10 years needed for forgiveness? 

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

What type of loan repayment program are you currently on? You may already have made qualifying payments. You may want to start by reviewing the information at this webpage: https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/repay-loans/forgiveness-cancellation/public-service
