My girlfriend had a wage garnishment on one of her student loans.  This went on for almost a year and now she has lost her job.  Can she possibly call them and get on a payment plan before they start garnishing from her new job/paycheck?

If they’re garnishing her wages, I assume she’s in default?

If that’s the case, it’s fairly easy to get out of default. If she doesn’t mind having the default on her credit report and wants to get it done quickly, she can consolidate her loans and sign up for an income-driven repayment plan. If she wants to remove the default from her credit report, she can rehabilitate the loan.
