I apologize if this is a silly question, but I am employed by a 501 c 3 organization as a full time employee while I am a law student. Can I start making payments on my loan (even if it’s just interest payments) and have that count towards the 120 payments for the public service loan forgiveness program?

Also, I just wanted to confirm that there is not an income requirement for the public service loan forgiveness program.

Thank you.

When you are in school more than 1/2 time, your loans are placed into in school deferment.  You should be able to get your undergraduate loans out of deferment and choose IBR now, but it’s going to be a bit of work, since the system is designed to automatically place them into deferment, and you’ll need to make a number of calls and potentially write some letters.  And don’t forget that the loans must be Federal Direct loans.
