I recently dropped from half-time status to not being in school (Dec 2015 was the when I was last half time). My student loan servicer is suddenly (with 2 weeks notice) telling me my loans are due this month. Due to some unfortunate timing of personal commitments I’ve had to take off Spring Semester in ‘14, ‘15 and ‘16. My program is a online/weekend graduate program and so even when I’m in school I am generally only considered a half-time student. In previous years I have received a 6 month grace period and some my loans end up being due in July or August. Due to my on/off status as well as an undergrad degree I have about 8 separate student loans (I cannot consolidate as some already are and I plan on going for PSLF and I don’t want to loose the payments I’ve made). Each time I have made payments it hasn’t been all of my loans. I’m not sure why this is. None the less it’s always only been a handful of the loans. Now all of a sudden i’m being told that they are (almost) all due and that it’s because I only get one grace period per loan. I cannot find this in writing anywhere but I also can’t find anything that directly contradicts it. I did find that the grace period isn’t used up if your only out of school 4 months and hten return but all of my leaves have been longer than 6 months due to it being the semester and then summer.
