My annual recertification online is now saying my husband must cosign my loan and that they need his income information. We file seperately to avoid this exact thing. It asks am I “able” to access his information….what about that I’m UNWILLING to provide it??? Why do they make things so darn difficult.
Has anyone had luck submitting a paper form and omitting spousal info? I’m stressed. I have Fedloan and plan to call but don’t have about 3 hours to sink into the black hole that is talking to them.
Thanks all!
I just did my annual recertification online and ran into this same issue. I flat out refused to give it to them - I am in the IBR program and I have filed married filing separately the entire time for the exact reason that I don’t want them to use my husband’s income. It is not required for this program, at all, according to the rules and if you were to do the paper recertification instead of the online one, it would be even more clear that you do not need to supply this information.
I think it is very foolish to give them information that they do not need and you are not legally required to give them. That is sensitive information that they can screw up - which happens often.
I checked the box that states I cannot reasonably access the information because it also states “AND” your spouse will sign. I may be able to access his tax information (without his explicit permission), but get him to sign some complicated documentation that looks a lot like he is signing up to pay my student loans, that he never took out in the first place?!? FORGET IT (and I would totally agree and encourage this behavior in him, it is the smart thing to do and if places were switched I wouldn’t sign anything either).
