My wife has been a Federal employee for the past 4 years. She graduated college in 2000. She consolidated her loans in 2002. We’ve been (faithfully) paying ever since and its brutal, especially with daily variable interest rates. We have a little over 6 years to go to satisfy the loan. We both over it but the consolidation piece has been the major hurdle we can’t overcome to take advantage of any forgiveness programs. That, and her too few years as a Fed. We hadn’t considered the above program, so would it be a good option for us? Are there better ones that we have just overlooked? Does it count that I have only ever worked in the non-profit arena despite not being the lona holder?
Thanks for any insight and recommendations!
