Can someone provide some insight into a few of the below
My husband and I are moving overseas. He is not a US citizen, I am.
Therefore he isnt really under an obligation to file taxes, I am.
I am a housewife with no income. Right now we file jointly because we live in a community property state…if we could we would file separately as it would be better for my student loans…
He has an H1B visa, soon to be green card. However if we establish ourselves in Canada or overseas he would rescind his green card because he wouldnt need it.
-If we move overseas can I file single or married filing separately since I have no income…so I can qualify for IBR?
-We own a house that we bought under both our names-with that said how does that affect him having to file taxes (if at all) as a foreign resident…Can I just file it under me, despite having no income….because again, he would have no job or income from the U.S. in the event we move overseas..
-The point is we want to avoid any sort of community property or high income etc because it works better for my student loans-its something we cant do now but if we can do it when we move overseas it would help incredibly with our financial situation
And yes, I am trying to get out of my loans because its crippling us lol…
Not sure if theres ways around but thought Id check as well as just general info about filing taxes while living overseas.
