I have been teaching since 2006 at Title I schools.
1. I tried to get forgiveness with my undergrad and of course that lovely 1998 rule appeared and was denied.
2. Several years later I go to grad school. Get loans. Pay off my undergrad loan while I am in grad school.
3. Went to apply again for my grad school loans and since I paid off my undergrad after I took out loans for grad school I still don’t qualify.
This is really hurting an entire generation of teachers who live through harsh times at Title 1 schools in hopes that a portion will get paid off.
I really feel this needs to be addressed. They are doing new configurations for millennials and I am not sure why this 1998 rule has to be there.
Does anyone know why this on or before 1998 is so special?
Does anyone know a work around if I have my loans from 1998 paid off now, why can’t my grad school get paid off just because when I took out the loan I still had previous loans?
