My ex wife and I have been paying under IBR for many years. She has remarried and her husband has his own federal student loans in which his income is used in calculating his separate payment. We have been advised for several years by seasoned reps to only report her income and my income in repaying our consolidated loan. So I provide my tax filing info and she provides her monthly pay stub. When we sent our annual income verification this year I specifically asked to be considered for REPAYE but Fedloans did not even consider the new plan for us. When I recalculate with REPAYE the payment drops about 400 monthly. This sounds too good to be true and we don’t trust our servicer due to past horrible service. Are we risking our current situation which has been uneasy due to our odd marital circumstances and the consolidated loan? Otherwise we qualify for the new REPAYE. I’m concerned about losing our qualified 40 PSLF payments.
