If one lands a job as a music director for a church, can this qualify for PSLF? The guidelines state that your counted hours must exclude “religious instruction, worship services, or any form of proselytizing”. So, if you are full time and chop off 3-4 hours for weekend services (and maybe a few for weddings, funerals, etc)...I think this would count. Has anyone here had experience with this? I assume you could count hours related to practicing, rehearsing, teaching, as it is not technically religious instruction…..I’m just taking the law literally.

I came on this sight tonight specifically for this question. I do hope someone has some insight about this!! I feel like “Music director” could very much fall between the lines to qualify for PSLF as most of the work done is not in the religious service.

I called a rep in the PSLF department at Fedloan Servicing, and she thought it should be fine. Said the rule is intended more for priests/reverends/clergy type positions. They might chop off a few hours for the time spent during religious services, but that should still come out to over 30 hours a week.

My own thought is that they should count it, and if they don’t, I think we can take the law literally and argue with samples from the law, and I think it would be a strong case. If anyone has had success (or has been unsuccessful) it would be helpful to hear from you! I’d hate to leave a job that counts for one that doesn’t count if it can be avoided.

When I hear that people go to a psychic and trust implicitly everything he tells them, I think this is the wrong approach. If we talk about are psychic readings accurate , then you always need to understand that no one can predict the future. Most often, psychics are good psychologists who can predict the course of events based on information about you and your character.
