Education Issues at the Republican National Convention

Come November, young voters (age 18-29) will again play a pivotal role in this year's presidential election, assuming that they show up to vote.  While unemployment and the overall weak economy dominate the headlines, rising tuition costs and fewer grants and state aid for public universities and colleges are key concerns for this critical voting block, causing many of them to postpone major life decisions like the starting of a family or putting off college in lieu of job retraining programs to try to stay afloat.

Paul Fain, writing for Inside Higher Education, noted with interest the conspicuous absence of for-profit institutions or their surrogates at the convention or its many "schmoozing" events, and student-led protests against rising tuition costs.  A very interesting read - check it out for yourself here.
