OMG!  Congress cares about student loan borrowers?  Pinch me!

A can of worms won't open itself.  But, Republican members of the House Committee on Education and Workforce want us to tell them about the problems we have with Direct Loan servicing!  No, really.  The lawmakers are asking that we the borrowers share our experiences related to loan rehabilitation, debt collection, privacy concerns, and poor customer service.  This will surely be a case of be careful what you ask for.  Here's our chance, y'all.  Post your comments through the committee's Facebook page, or by emailing DLFeedback@mail.house.gov

In related news, congressional members sent a pointed letter to U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) Comptroller General Gene Dodaro asking GAO to answer questions about the department's rehabilitation and loan collection processes. "As part of our oversight responsibilities, it is important for us to understand challenges with the Direct Loan program," the letter states. "Bureaucratic problems within the department that are creating additional issues for borrowers could have serious implications not only for the Direct Loan program, but also for the financial stability of all student loan borrowers."
