Three Cheers for Rohit Chopra, CFPB Student Loan Ombudsman!

Hip hip!  Hooray!  Rohit Chopra stood up for student loan borrowers during his four-year tenure as the first ever Consumer Financial Protection Bureau's Student Loan Ombudsman.  I thank you, Mr. Chopra.  The Chronicle of Higher Education reports that Mr. Chopra will step down from his post next week.  In his resignation letter, Mr. Chopra wrote, "I am proud of the progress that we have made together to assist borrowers, promote transparency, and hold accountable those who break the law.  While more work is needed to correct the serious deficiencies in the student-loan market, I have great confidence in the bureau’s ability to continue this important work on behalf of consumers."

According to the Wall Street Journal, Senator Elizabeth Warren (woot!) had this to say about Mr. Chopra, "He is smart as a whip, independent, hard-working, and loaded with integrity.”  That's what I'm talking about. What's next for Mr. Chopra? Rumor has it that Senator Warren has advised Governor Andrew Cuomo of New York to consider Mr. Chopra for a top New York financial regulator post.

Rohit Chopra rocks, y'all. Best wishes to him in his future endeavors.
