Avoiding Student Loan Default - New York Times Editorial Reiterates Heather’s Position

If you have been following Heather's blog, website, or various social media platforms for any time at all or have been able to hear her speak live at your school or event, you know that Heather is passionate about helping borrowers avoid defaulting on their loans and developing a loan repayment plan that they can afford.

In an editorial published in the New York Times this past Sunday, the Times points out that a number of flexible repayment options are available to borrowers, yet they might not even know those programs exist.  Quoting the article, "Critics have complained that the application for the Income-Based Repayment program is too complicated."  If you replace "critics" with "Heather" in the precedding sentence you will hear what Heather has been grumbling about for years.  Kudos to the Times for again bringing attention to this important topic and for trying to spead the word about these important programs.

For those interested in pursuing Income-Based Repayment or Public Service Loan Forgiveness, both excellent programs for some borrowers, watch Heather's recent recorded webinar on the topics.  Also, don't forget to visit our tools page for links and resources to help simplify these sometimes cumbersome rules and programs.
